Clay Art Center is gathering a contemporary cross-section of emerging
artists within a 75 mile radius of its facility in Port Chester, NY. The
focus of this show is to visually represent the culture, trends, and
theories surrounding clay practice in the region. This inclusive
culmination will have a breadth of work ranging from academic,
alternative, traditional, and post-industrial objects; functional,
installation, and sculptural work will be represented. The 2016
exhibition cycle has an overarching theme focusing on New York ceramics.
Artists will be prompted a short survey as to why they work in the New
York area and where they see the field going.

Leslie Ferrin is the director of Ferrin Contemporary, specializing in ceramic art circa 1950 – present. Based in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Ferrin Contemporary is located at Independent Art Projects on the MASS MoCA campus in North Adams, Mass. The exhibition space features artworks from current projects and artists engaged in our international program for visiting artists and professionals. Ferrin, along with a team of art professionals, provides services to private services to private collectors and project and career management to artists. In 2013, Ferrin’s Ceramic Top 40 curated an international survey exhibition that traveled to venues in the USA.

One artist from the list of final exhibitors will be selected to have a solo exhibition at Clay Art Center July 30 – September 16, 2016.  The winner will be chosen by a sub-committee of individuals highly invested in the future of crafts in New York City:
Glenn Adamson, Director of the MAD Museum
Jennifer Scanlan, Independent Curator
David McFadden, former Chief Curator at the MAD Museum
Barry Harwood, Curator at the Brooklyn Museum
The winner will be announced at the opening reception on January 30, 2016.
